In April , KKFI announced IPL-style tournament. Sudhanshu Mittal is leaving no stone upturned to get Kho Kho popular with some innovative ideas.
India has shown amazing performance at international level Kho Kho meets. India has successfully reigning South Asian Games Championship. The Indian team won Gold in Asian Kho Kho Championship, beaten England in home & away series and gold in International Kho Kho tournament.
Even after these wins Kho Kho is far behind in terms of popularity and become a premier sport of India.
Sudhanshu Mittals said in an interview that the game needs to reinvent itself and KKFI is trying to put all the required ingredients of any contemporary sport in Kho Kho to make it more audience appealing.
KHO KHO ground surface:
Kho Kho is still being played on bare ground and have to go through some change in playing surface. Federation is conducting nation wide tournaments on the synthetic mats for years now. But they are hardly customized to provide and help specific movements which is necessary in the game and are causing injuries.
CEO of Ultimate Kho Kho, Tenzing Niyogi says “Our efforts are to reduce injuries by introducing the new mat which will be a first for the sport.
Research by KKFI, indicates that the mats used as Playing surface needs to be softer than mats which are currently used and making sure that pace of the game is not altered, actions and reaction of the players while takeoff or dodging are not compromised. To reduce the risk of injuries to a great extent, KKFI research after numerous experiments have deiced to get the mats which as 40-50 density which will help players movements and prevent injuries.
Kho Kho shoes:
Another change in Kho Kho is to have custom made shoes for the Kho Kho Players. Currently the players wear the shoe which has tight ankles causing problem in movements. The new shoes are wider at ankle and helps in any twisting and turning movements.
One more major change apart from playing gears are to modify the rules to suite broadcast preferences. As per the rule the 4 innings last for 36 minutes which will now end in 28 minutes. A whole set of new significant transformation, slow motion, video referrals will boost the audience experience.
Kho Kho umpires:
In addition to ground and shoe changes, the Kho Kho Federation of India will introduce more numbers of umpires on the playground lines.
From 31st August to 2nd September the KKFI is going to test the umpiring changes at Jaipur and Delhi in three days workshop. Around 60 referees and umpires will attend the event to ensure the success of the meet.
Niyogi also says that each moment of the game will be an Event at Ultimate Kho Kho. The camera angles will catch all the dives, movement and dodging. This will give a pleasing experience for audiences.
With introduction of Kho Kho new rules, the game is all set to become the second indigenous sport after Kabaddi and make it on the television.
Sudhanshu Mittal also bought to our notice that in last two years KKFI has put great amount of effort. And because of these efforts we have Kho Kho RECOGNIZED as an Asian sports.
“We have revamped the entire federation and the upcoming league will give the sport a major boost. The awareness and craze for this game are bound to grow,” said Sudhanshu Mittal.
